Grouse and Woodcock hunting in Northern Maine
Situated in prime Grouse and Woodcock habitat, we are centrally located in the NORTH MAINE WOODS Inc, managed industrial wildlands of Northern Maine. More than 3.5 million acres of managed, actively harvested and regenerating forest land. Allagash Headwaters Lodge is more than 60 miles from the closest town.
Our area is known for its remoteness, extensive coverts and minimal hunting pressure. With literally thousands of miles of private logging roads, open to hunting, which can range from drivable and actively maintained gravel woods roads to grown up two tracks limited to foot travel only.
Endless areas open to hunting that are made up of various age classes of woodlands that make for exceptional grouse coverts. Our coverts are primarily made up of multiple stages of forest regeneration, from beech ridges and mixed poplar stands to selective and clearcut areas. We follow the food source for the best hunting. Colts foot, clover, beech nuts and catkins of multiple species of trees.
Our Woodcock hunting consists of resident birds and migrating flocks from Canada. The migration is weather and temperature dependent and the hunt can be absolutely fantastic at times. Woodcock hunting is best in our regenerating clearcuts, alder swales and replanted soft wood tree plantations of varying age classes. This exceptional bird is an extra bonus while pursuing norther Maines’ KING OF THR WOODS!
Our area and the NORTH MAINE WOODS are well known for its thriving and abundant Grouse population. Low hunting pressure and endless habitat makes for undisturbed wild birds which leads to multiple bird/flock contacts and Grouse that hold longer before the flush.

*Due to limited lodge space, ALL dogs must be kept in vehicles, vehicle dog boxes and/or trailers. Very limited kennel and run space/ subject to change.
Lodging Terms and Conditions:
Pet policy: Sorry, no pets allowed, with the exception of bird hunting dogs during the upland season.
Check in and check out: Plan to arrive anytime after 2 pm on date of arrival, and check out by 10 am on the day of departure.
Reservations: A 50% deposit is required to reserve your reservation.
Deposits are non-refundable, but may be credited to another date in the event of a cancellation.
The state of Maine 9% Lodging tax will be applied to your stay with us.
